Root Canal Therapy
If your tooth develops a chronic ache, biting pressure or extreme sensitivity, a root canal might be necessary. The most common cause for an infected tooth is an untreated cavity. The pulp inside the tooth becomes inflamed and thus leads to infection. Bruxism or simply large restorations can also cause pupal trauma.
In preparing a root canal, we simply access the pupal chambers and nerves through the surface of your tooth. We remove the infection and rinse out with anĀ antiseptic solution. We then fill up the anterior aspect of your tooth with guttapercha, a rubber-like substance. Depending on the severity of the infection, sometimes a second appointment is necessary to perform the filling aspect of the root canal.
